FAQs

Book of Remembrance

No. The Book of Remembrance entries always show the surname first, followed by the given names only on the top line. It looks nice and clear and neat that way, and emphasis the name.

There are 3 main price points in the Book of Remembrance; 2 line entry, 5 line entry and 8 line entry. No entry may be longer than 8 lines. 3 or 4 line entries attract the 5 line entry price. 6 and 7 line entries attract the 8 line entry price. But you could always add a line or two to make it up to the price point.

No. The calligraphy artists feel there isn’t really room to paint a nice illustration next to a 2 line entry. It would be a shame to squash them up.

There are 3 volumes of the Book each covering 4 months of the year. The volumes go away in turn to the calligrapher for inscribing, so for part of the year at least each volume is not here for about 3 months.

If the date you have chosen for your Book entry is between 1 January and the 30th April the relevant volume of the Book will be away for inscribing between mid- September and mid-December. You can first see the inscription on 1 January.

If the date you have chosen for your Book entry is between 1 May and 31 August, the relevant volume of the Book will be away for inscribing between mid-January and mid-April. You will first be able to see the entry on 1 May.

If the date you have chosen for your Book entry is between 1 September and 31 December, the relevant volume of the Book will be away for inscribing between mid-May and mid-August. You will first be able to see the entry on 1 September.

Yes, so long as the relevant volume of the Book is here, you may see it. Ring the bell on the wall of the Book Room and a member of staff will come and turn the page for you.

Yes. Each year we look closely at the roses and we draw up a list of dead or poorly performing roses. We replant with new roses in the winter when the frost is on the ground, so they make good root.

No, sorry, at the moment that is not possible. The Garden of Remembrance and the cemetery are only for people.
